5 Essential Oils for Labor + Delivery

It's time to prepare for the hardest thing I will probably ever do, give birth to our sweet Ella Joy! All of the pregnancy apps are telling me to put the car seat in the car and have this giant checklist finished already. Let's just say, it's okay if you don't have every single thing accomplished before baby's arrival.

***Every person's body, pregnancy and delivery is different! What works well for me may not be the best for you. As always, I recommend consulting with your doctor or midwife about your body and your health!

I do have a short list of essential oils I will be using to support my body for labor and delivery. Here's what I plan to use:

1. Nutmeg Essential Oil

Nutmeg Essential Oil may support your adrenal glands. I plan to apply nutmeg to the bottoms of my feet for energy support.

2. Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil is a wonderful tool for nausea support. I know it is common for women to get sick during labor and if that happens Peppermint EO will be a must to have nearby.

3. Clary Sage Essential Oil

Clary Sage Essential Oil may help induce labor. I plan to rub this oil on my lower back and lower belly as we get closer to our due date. You can dilute the essential oil with fractionated coconut oil and make a DIY roller if you wanted to!

4. Calming Oily Blends

I couldn't pick just one essential oil or blend that is helpful for supporting stressed out emotions; some of my favorites include: Valor Essential Oil, Peace + Calming Essential Oil, Sacred Mountain Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, Stress Away Essential Oil, and Gentle Baby Essential Oil. I plan to bring my own diffuser with me to the hospital! Young Living has a personal sized diffuser that would be really great to bring too.

5. ClaraDerm Spray

This is technically a spray, but I wanted to include it in the list because many women rave about how helpful this is for your lady parts before and after deliver. I've been using it twice daily to hopefully prevent major tearing. You could DIY your own spray with the following essential oils: Myrrh Essential Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, Roman Chamomile Essential Oil and Helichrysum Essential Oil.
