DIY Dishwasher Rinse Aid

If you are starting your low-tox journey, you may have first switched out more practical items like laundry soap or dishwasher detergent. If I was going to direct someone newly beginning to choose low-tox products, I'd recommend starting with household cleaner (vinegar and lemon, thieves or tea tree essential oil is a super simple combination) and work your way from there.
What I have learned from my switch to natural, plant-based dishwasher detergent is that my dishes sometimes were covered in a thin, white residue. Not only is such a residue annoying to clean, but it looked terrible. I was inspired by my friend Shelby to make a DIY Rinse Aid and it worked - no more yucky residue on my clean dishes!!

Here's what you need:
-Lemon Essential Oil
-Distilled White Vinegar

Step 1: Upcycle an old glass jar to store your DIY Rinse Aid (mine is an old salsa jar).
Step 2: Fill vinegar to the top of the storage container.
Step 3: Add 10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil.
*If you are using a larger storage container, add more essential oil drops as needed.
Step 4: Add a label from Amazon.

Step 5: Pour the DIY Rinse Aid into dishwasher before washing.
*I estimate how much is needed each time I run the dishwasher. Try a small amount and add more if needed.
