DIY Dry Shampoo

Updated: May 9, 2020

What day of the week is it? What month? I feel like COVID-19 has me completely lost in time; an "out of body" experience is the best way I know how to describe the feeling. I'm taking advantage of the long at home days to work on tackling the low-tox DIYs on my list to make. I decided to try making DIY Dry Shampoo today. I thought this will be a very valuable item for me as a first time momma (baby due May 21st)!

If you are a new visitor to the Joyful World Essentials blog, know that my heart is always to provide simple recipes that anyone can do! I also always recommend upcylcying old items (like glass jars, pantry items, etc) first before buying anything new. If you are needing recommendations for purchasing, I have my Amazon storefront available (click on the "Wellness" and "Pantry" tab to find most anything you will need to start DIY-ing your own products).

Before I started my DIY, I soaked an old pesto jar in baking soda, water and Lemon Essential Oil (not a Young Living member yet? Join the community here!). Baking soda and Lemon Essential Oil is a powerhouse combo for deodorizing smells and within a minute or so the pesto smell was completely gone!

Now I am ready to make my DIY Dry Shampoo!

Ingredient List:

-Organic Cocoa Powder

-Baking Soda

-Cedarwood Essential Oil

-Lavender Essential Oil

Step 1: Mix 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder with 3 tablespoons of baking soda.

Adjust the measurements based on your hair color!

Step 2: Add 5 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and Cedarwood Essential Oil.

Step 3: Mix together thoroughly.

Now your DIY Dry Shampoo is ready to use! Apply your DIY Dry Shampoo to the roots of your hair (here is an example video).
