DIY Shampoo

Have you ever thought about making your own shampoo?

When I first ordered my Premium Stater Kit from Young Living, I had no idea that I would be that mom DIY-ing all of my products.

I used to be so intimidated to DIY things for my home, but I truly do feel equipped and empowered because I have so many essential oils at home.

If you are wanting to switch to non-toxic products on a budget, DIY is the way to go. This shampoo cost me about $4 (about $2 for unscented shampoo, ~40 cents for Cedarwood EO, ~60 cents for Rosemary EO and ~90 cents for Lavender EO).

Here's what you need:

-Castile Soap

-Grapeseed Oil

-Rosemary Essential Oil

-Cedarwood Essential Oil

-Lavender Essential Oil

Several optional essential oils that you could use instead or in addition to the list above include: Peppermint Essential Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil.

I always recommend upcycling a bottle when you make your homemade products. For my DIY Shampoo recipe I reused an old komboucha bottle.

Step 1: Fill the bottle 3/4 full with Castile Soap.

In this DIY I used Peppermint Castile Soap, but I prefer Unscented Castile Soap. Dr. Bronner's is the best brand for Castile Soap. You can also DIY your own liquid Castile Soap (super awesome for your budget). My friend Claire shared her recipe here.

Step 2: Add 1 teaspoon of Grapeseed Oil.

This adds much needed moisturizer to your hair! I usually get my Grapeseed Oil at Aldi, but you can also find some great options on Amazon.

Step 3: Add your essential oils.

Young Living is my preferred brand. There oils are 100% pure, non-GMO certified, and certified organic. Young Living's Seed to Seal standards are actually more thorough than "organic."

I choose Lavender Essential Oil, Cedarwood Essential Oil and Rosemary Essential Oil for Postpartum Hair Loss support. There are definitely some other lovely combinations you could do. Email me if you'd like to brainstorm some additional options personalized to your hair.
