Homemade Magic Shell

Updated: May 9, 2020

While the world is on lockdown with all the craziness of COVID-19, my hubby and I wanted to make sure we were stocked up with the essentials - toilet paper and ice cream.

I visited three different stores and even drove to our neighboring state of Iowa to find toilet paper. Thankfully, Dollar General had two packages of toilet paper left in our small home town. I was also able to secure the ice cream we needed at the local Dollar General.

One of Kyle's favorite toppings for ice cream is Smucker's Magic Shell. I didn't find any when I was out gathering toilet paper supplies and thought we should try making a homemade, healthier (ish) option instead. The result tasted amazing and if you like mint, you can jazz up your recipe with 1-2 drops of Peppermint Vitality (not a member yet? Join the Joyful World Essentials Community here).

Here's what you need:

-organic coconut oil

-Bake Believe chocolate

-Peppermint Vitality (optional)

Step 1: Heat chocolate chips and coconut oil on low heat.

I did not measure. I made a general estimate of what we would need for two servings. I probably used 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil.

Step 2: Once the chocolate and oil are completely melted, add 1-2 drops of Peppermint Vitality.

Step 3: Pour over ice cream and allow the mixture to harden (should harden almost instantly).

We were pleasantly surprised with how delicious the homemade magic shell tasted and will definitely be using this recipe again!
