My Word for 2020

Updated: May 9, 2020

God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which he must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits & relax our nerves. [A. W. Tozer]

One of my favorite moments from Christmas was just sitting in bed sipping coffee at the family farm laughing next to my hubby. ⁣

The slow moments in life are often the ones we look back on with deep, sincere joy.

Our modern American culture glorifies busyness, when in fact, our bodies and souls are craving a slower pace of life. With Kyle and I's most recent move, our community has shrunk tremendously and the lack of regular commitments has forced us into slower rhythms. It's easy for me to resist the slow as something negative or lonely instead of seeing the change as God's call to enter into a season of rest.

I've been listening to the Bridgetown Church podcast all about the Sabbath and it's been re-confirming the need for me to embrace the slow. For me, this looks like creating more delicious homemade meals, more dog walks, more books added to my reading list, more time spent in prayer + worship and in general, more times of stillness.

As much as I want to achieve, accomplish and crush goals, I have to also recognize the beauty found in the art of doing nothing. Being still and finding moments of quiet IS an accomplishment all on it's own. ⁣ Here’s to more making memories that inspire joy in the new year. ⁣ ⁣ Here’s to dancing in the kitchen for no reason. ⁣ ⁣ Here’s to breakfast in bed and lazy mornings at home. ⁣ ⁣ Here’s to finding joy in the most ordinary moments of life. ⁣ ⁣ My word for 2020 is WONDER. ⁣

Wonder: a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable. ⁣ Part of why I choose this word for the new year is because we are expecting our first baby to be arrive in May 2020.

I can’t wait to experience life through the eyes of my child. ⁣ ⁣ Her first sunset. ⁣ Her first giggle. ⁣ Her first smile.

Her first word.

May I embrace the change and slowness of life with joy during this new year. ⁣ ⁣ Did you choose a word for the new year? 👇
